Today is April Fool's Day!
.........

Ask Steven to tell you about his great new job.
...........

These fellows started out wild and ended up being hand fed by the kids. After the butcher, they were on out dinner plates. Very often, we had a pair of them. A rancher friend of mine would deliver them straight from the open field.

for Wednesday March 30th

Here is a current photo of our first home. It was a 4 bedroom model home that included the furniture. The price in 1965 was $13,000. The Catholic school was just a few blocks away. We planted the big tree in the front yard that still stands today. The color of the home was beige when we lived here.
.............
Driving from Clarksburg to Sacramento, the kids always noticed this big water tank. I believe some called it an up-side-down birthday cake. The Sacramento River levee is on the left. Corrected by Steven

20110328

for Tuesday March 28th

This is a current photograph of the Post Office located in Clarksburg. We lived right next to it 47 years ago and it has remained unchanged. Everyone for miles around came daily to pick up their mail.
....

Next door was our home. It has changed since we lived there with the beautiful yard gone. The whole town would look over the fence and enjoy the kids at play- Mimi, Joe, and Patti. We couldn't keep clothes on 2 year old Patti. Nobody else, including Mary Ella, seemed to mind-but I did. At the time, we had this huge levy contract in the area and I didn't want to appear as the Beverly Hillbillies.

for Monday March 28

Our old parish, St. Anne's in South Sacramento, founded in 1963. We joined the parish in 1964.
Our pastor said he picked the site because it would be in the center of growing Sacramento. Alas, he soon found out he was at the outside edge of the growth line. The city stopped at St Anne's.
...
St. Anne's School grounds and classrooms.
...

Here is a photo taken inside the church. I can remember the huge crying room on the left, behind the glass. It all looked as I remember it 47 years ago.
...................
Our pastor's claim to his 15 minutes of fame. He was a priest connected with the winter olympics in 1960. There was NO snow, and artificial snow was years away. He had everyone praying for snow. It came down in abundance and the event was saved. He and God got the credit.
I clearly remember going door to door asking for donations in building the church and school.
I can't recall the pastor's name, but i think the kids will.
