Emma came in third in her age group in  13k run.  The run was sponsored by a temple and she received her trophy from the head monk.  Mom and Dad didn't win a trophies.

Mike how will it be back on the farm later this year? Emma will draw some quizzical looks when she tells about receiving her trophy from the head monk. A 13k run? I can't even think of one, let alone do one.

A very special report about Hedges from his teacher.
Hedges is such a great boy!

To Amber, From Michael Mahoney, teacher
“Hey Amber:
I just wanted to share a story about Hedges.
This morning he and Nashi, a girl from Lina's class, both arrived in front of me at the same time to show me some of their work.
Hedges immediately stepped aside, did a little bow of sorts, and asked Nashi to go first.
It was great.
Came right from his heart.
I stopped the entire class and told everyone what had just happened.
Everyone started clapping!
Hedges was beaming.”

For Thursday May 24th

Thank You Marcus for capturing my birthday celebration on camera at Jacks. Due to the movie was posted on my facebook wall I can't embed it here, but I still wanted to show you a picture of his post.
*****************************

At the old Lyons Restaurant for dinner. On another  Birthday get together.  Jim Jr. (2.1), Mimi (2.11), and Marcus (2.111), and Joanie (2.1a). This restaurant used to be Lyons, where we hung out for decades with the Art crowd. Lyons sold out to Mels, and this was their first day open. I went into Mels early in the afternoon. Meet the manager and told him what I liked, When I showed up for dinner he knew my name and likes. My guests were bewildered/impressed. They did a remodel in about 6 weeks of long hours.

20120518

for Saturday May 19th

 Joe, our star. Number 1.

"From Jeanni

It has been a few days since I have bragged about one of the kids.   Joe ran in the District Meet last night.  He was awesome.  Before the races he always makes sure to shake everyone's hand and after he tells everyone congratulations.
He got second place for the one mile and 1st place for the 2 mile.  The 2 mile is 8 laps around and it seems like it goes forever.  Joe was spent by the end.  His school won first place in the district for the boys.  Joe was so excited that the guys got a trophy.
Unfortunately, today he has a final exam which might not go as well as the track meet.  I wish he could get extra credit for running or for being kind. He wouldn't have to study at all."

Joe's team and trophy. I assume the older one is the coach.

Last Thursday while checking out the new Bay Bridge, Eli and I stopped for lunch at an old favorite eating place in Emeryville, The Public Market. The inside has been redone, but the vendors and food was about the same. The crowds have lightened up. I miss the Borders Book Store which was next door.
