For Monday October 1st

Here is a report on Michael Flynn, who passed away on September 24th. It was edited by myself to shortened it.
It written by Michael's aunt, Nancy Flynn Carlton

Dear Ones,

This is what I know.
Michael Flynn, son of Bob and Betsy, brother of Stephen and Patrick, was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease) in August of this year. He started having symptoms over a year ago. Bob and Betsy did not know he was ill until May of this year.
Michael knew that after he returned to New York he would not be able to teach his Fall classes because he wasn't able to speak often or well. Others in his department were teaching his classes. It took a long time to get a diagnosis. Bob worked on practical solutions to problems of daily living that Michael was experiencing more as the disease progressed, such as having a tailor swap the button on pants for velcro.
The type of ALS Michael succumbed to was severe and rapidly progressing.
Bob, Betsy, Stephen and Patrick flew to New York last night. Michael's funeral was held at Corpus Christi Church in N.Y. City, four blocks from where they lived.
Betsy thinks Bob would welcome an e-mail, or, note if you are so inclined. I can send the e-mail and physical addresses for Patrick, Bob & Betsy if you want them.
…………………………………………..Nancy

Michael Flynn, Ph.D. on September 24, 2012. Michael is survived by his beloved wife Yolanda Rivera and daughters Olivia Isabel Rivera-Flynn and Antonia Carmen Rivera-Flynn. Michael also leaves behind his loving parents Robert and Betsy Flynn and his two brothers Stephen and Patrick Flynn.
Dr. Flynn was a Professor of Psychology at York College, an Associate Director of the Center on Terrorism at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a practicing Psychotherapist.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, September 28, 2012 at Corpus Christi RC Church, located at 529 West 121st Street, (east of Broadway) New York, NY. Internment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Woodside, NY.
Personal note from Betsy Flynn:
I was fortunate to be with Mike 3 times after the May diagnosis of ALS.  It was tough seeing him lose weight, speech, manual dexterity; sweet in moments of shared memories.
In the times not with him, keeping busy, not talking about him kept my pain level tolerable.  At his simple funeral Bob, Steve, Patrick and I met his friends, patients, colleagues.  It's hard leaving him in NY in a pine box.

Betsy

Dr. Flynn taught all of his students to open their eyes to the bigger picture. He will be missed. I am sorry for everyone's loss.

I am sadden to find out about this now, so late. Mike, you were and always will be a wonderful person.

Having the privilege to be in his classes and to see him in person, I am thankful for that. Everything he taught I am using and applying now in life.

He taught me to strive for better, in all aspects of life.
